Developing young men today for tomorrows challenges
With an increasing school dropout rate, teen pregnancy, alcohol and drug abuse, and alarming crime levels; parents cannot help but nurse some degree of anxiety when they contemplate the future of their children. Today’s youth, irrespective of class, race, or family structure must be armed with tools and skills with which to face the realities of life.
African-American dispersed presence throughout Oklahoma presents a unique challenge for our youth as culturally responsive programs are few and far between. African-American boys are particularly at-risk in the absence of safety nets that provides immediate support when they encounter either performance difficulties or social challenges. Most African-American boys today grow up in households with no adult males who can model “manhood”. NBP is an initiative to help these young men develop the tool needed to offset these deficits.
